Ottie

We have a pet Russian Deseret Tortoise that we have had for nine years and then the two other families that had him before us each had him at least four years. So Ottie is probably about 20 years old. We love him so much. He is the coolest pet ever. In the winter we put him in his cage with a heat lamp and then we just feed him every once in a while cuz he haberniates. Then in the summer we let him wonder the house and he just comes into the kitchen and follows you around until you feed him. When we taught nursery we took him to church on the day the lesson was one animals and the kids loved him. We even took him to Preschool for show in tell on the day it was "T". Well the last week we have noticed that his head wasn't sticking out but I didn't think nothing of it then on Monday he was walking slower than normal and we picked him up and his beak was stuck inside his shell so that he couldn't get his head out. So we got it unhooked and then we found out his bottom beak/jaw was broken. We tried to get him to eat but he couldn't cuz his jaw just hung there so Tuesday we operated on it ourselves cuz we can not afford the vet and we got his jaw all trimmed up. Then he still could not eat since it still would not move with him mouth it just hung there. On Thursday he came out to eat and I look at him and his jaw is just hanging there bleeding. So Spank pulled it the rest of the way off and we were able to hand feed him. We hope he will be okay and we are not sure if he will grow back a bottom beak or not. Poor Hadlie she loves animals and has the most tender heart ever. When she saw his beak just hanging there she started crying. We are all worried about our poor Ottie.
